Alu gosht (Potato and Meat Curry) :

(Potato and Meat Curry) :


Ingredients:


500 grams of meat (mutton or beef), cut into pieces

3-4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters

2 large onions, finely sliced

2 tomatoes, chopped

2-3 green chilies, slit

2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste

1/2 cup yogurt

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

Salt to taste

Cooking oil or ghee

Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:


Heat oil in a large pot or pressure cooker and add cumin seeds. Let them sizzle.


Add sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.


Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.


Add meat pieces and brown them on all sides.


Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are well combined.


Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and the oil separates.


Stir in the yogurt and cook for a few minutes until it's well incorporated.


Add enough water to cover the meat, and if using a pressure cooker, cover it and cook until the meat is tender (usually around 20-25 minutes after the first whistle).


If you're using a regular pot, cover it and simmer until the meat is tender (this may take longer, around 1-1.5 hours).


Once the meat is cooked, add the potatoes and green chilies. Simmer until the potatoes are tender and the curry thickens.


Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.


Serve your Aloo Gosht hot with naan or rice. Enjoy!
